Position Description
Job Title: Assistant Director of Business Services
Reports to: Director of Business Services
Classification: Non-Exempt
Purpose: Promote membership retention by developing programs and activities and provide effective public relations.
Environment: The Better Business Bureau is a non-profit membership organization (501C6) and manages a Foundation (501c3) that provides for mediation services. The headquarters are located in Fresno with a branch office in Bakersfield, and services customers in 9 counties of the San Joaquin Valley by providing reliability reports on companies and charities, advertising review and dispute resolution through conciliation, mediation and arbitration.
The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position along with certain supportive duties. It is not all-inclusive. Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and in addition, management, as appropriate, may modify this job description.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide for timely, effective communications to members by creating written materials for distribution including, but not limited to, fax-alerts, E-alerts and quarterly newsletters.
2. Provide for effective marketing and advertising efforts by handling all television, print and radio advertisements/marketing from creation through production.
3. Provide for effective marketing by creating and distributing press releases to all media and conducting interviews when needed.
4. Contribute to achievement of membership retention by developing innovative programs and activities that demonstrate to members the benefits of the BBB.
5. Provide for accurate membership records by updating member information on the computer and in file form.
6. Provide for timely management and follow up on past due accounts.
7. Provide an up-to-date and cutting edge website for use by current members and to attract new members by managing the content, graphics and design.
8. Contribute to membership retention by answering the member line and completing retention calls in a timely manner and responding to questions appropriate to membership retention, and referring other calls to the appropriate person.
9. Provide for effective marketing by planning and attending events, including but not limited to trade shows.
10. Provide for effective outreach programs by planning and presenting to the public, including but not limited to Smarter Living programs and Military Line
11. Provide for accurate company reporting by conducting investigations in cooperation with law enforcement agencies and other BBB departments.
12. Sell sponsorships and related products to businesses by calling businesses
13. Must be knowledgeable of all BBB programs and services offered to businesses and the general public;
14. Demonstrate appropriate knowledge of sponsorships and programs of BBB, develop and implement strong customer base for sponsorships and programs and, ensure high productivity
15. Effective communication tools including telephone skills and effective in person selling.

Education/Experience
- B.A. degree in public relations or equivalent in education and experience
- Minimum 2 years experience in public relations/marketing or other direct contact in a sales-related organization

- Bi Lingual requested but not required.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to observe people and processes and provide feedback and training; read and understand written material on the internet, computer, hard copy; able to develop and compare statistical reports from a number of sources; able to read and see ad copy, and to design and recommend advertisements; able to speak to large groups to present information regarding the Bureau; research, design, recommend member and advertising material; able to read, listen to “scams” and write clear messages of alert for consumers; communicate by phone and in person; listen and understand issues and people. Must be able to enter data, write reports. Some lifting, bending, stooping, stretching and reaching as needed to move supplies, files and materials.
